Passage for Sitka

Juneau, Alaska – Sitka, Alaska

  • 7 Days
  • 550 Miles

The Inside Passage of both Canada and Alaska supply endless channels and fjords to explore and wander.  With this in mind we have pulled out the maps and decided to add an incredible new route to our Dangerous Water Adventures for 2022!  This route will add new destinations including; Haines, Hoonah, Elfin Cove, Pelican, and Sitka! Below is your adventure itinerary but remember, everything is subject to change.

DAY 1

  • Auke Bay, Alaska – Haines, Alaska
  • 90 Miles
  • 7:00am Departure time
We will meet in the lobby of your hotel and brief the crew on our route to Haines, Alaska. Today the team will depart Auke Bay, just north of Juneau, and explore the coastal waters between the mainland and the Chilkat Mountain Range. The passage we will be navigating is the Lynn Canal teaming with wildlife and incredible views.

DAY 2

  • Haines, Alaska – Hoonah, Alaska
  • 75 Miles
  • 7:00am Departure Time
Wake up early in Haines and enjoy a hearty breakfast. The crew will depart Haines in the morning hours to avoid the notorious winds that come down from the cool mountains of the Yukon Territory. Now, moving south we will have our sights set on the native village of Hoonah, Alaska.

DAY 3

  • Hoonah, Alaska – Elfin Cove, Alaska
  • 60 Miles
  • 8:00am Departure Time
After an overnight in the native village of Hoonah the crew will be pointing their watercraft West and exploring the waters of Icy Strait. This is a major entry point for feeding Humpback Whales who have just completed a long journey from their birthing and breeding waters of Hawaii and Mexico. Today the crew will be treated to the gorgeous shoreline and ultimate destination of Elfin Cove. This is a destination you do not want to miss!

DAY 4

  • Elfin Cove, Alaska – Pelican, Alaska
  • 50 Miles
  • 10:00am DEPARTURE time
Elfin Cove is located at the western entry point of Icy Strait and the Alaskan Inside Passage. After a nutritious breakfast by the sea the crew will stay on the inside water and head to the small town of Pelican, Alaska. This remote outpost on the edge of the Pacific Ocean is our final point to hold and wait for calm seas for our passage to Sitka.

DAY 5 TO 7

  • Pelican, Alaska – Sitka, Alaska
  • 100 Miles
  • DEPARTURE time Weather Dependent
The crew will prepare for departure in Pelican waiting for calm waters on the outside. Sitka is just over 100 miles south and our transit will expose the team to the swell of the open Pacific Ocean for a short period of time. The coastline is nothing less than spectacular with huge sheer cliffs and beautiful dense forests. The team will have to be on the look out for extensive kelp beds and jagged rocks just below the surface. This passage is truly unique and a must for the adventure enthusiast. Our final destination of Sitka was the capital of the Russian settlements when Russian owned the land we today call Alaska!
